MD. Sameer Iqbal Chowdhury
Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Grad | IoT Enthusiast | Aspiring Researcher
About Me
As an aspiring graduate student in Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, I am deeply passionate about automated and industrial systems. My experience spans a wide array of sensors, actuation systems, microcontrollers, and single-board computers, with a particular focus on IoT-based systems.
My expertise lies in interfacing water quality sensors, specifically for measuring Electrical Conductivity (EC) and pH, skills I honed during my final year project. I am also keenly interested in Industrial IoT (IIoT) and its transformative potential in industrial automation.
With hands-on experience in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and a strong foundation in technical writing, I am well-equipped to contribute to cutting-edge research and development in robotics and automation. My goal is to pursue graduate studies to further advance my knowledge and make meaningful contributions to the field.

Exploring the Efficacy of NAO Robot as a Language Instructor
Authors: Ipshita Ahmed Moon, Humayra Rashid, Safayat Hasan, MD. Sameer Iqbal Chowdhury, Shifat-E-Arman, and Lafifa Jamal
10th International Conference for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (ICRAI), 2024
Status: Accepted for Presentation
I contributed as a joint first author to this work that involved having an NAO robot serving as a Japanese language tutor. This project utilizes double control groups of human tutors and mobile language learning applications to demonstrate the effectiveness of the NAO robot as a language tutor against traditional methods.

IoT-enabled Scalable Closed Hydroponics System with Smart Parameter Control
Undergraduate Thesis Project | January 2023 - January 2024
- Designed and implemented an IoT-based scalable closed hydroponics system.
- Monitored and controlled physical parameters required for plant growth (pH, Electrical Conductivity, CO2, Humidity, Air Temperature, Water Temperature).
- Utilized Arduino Nano and Arduino Mega as nodes to handle sensor and actuator data separately.
- Implemented an XGBoost-based classification method for independent control actions.
- Developed a web-based dashboard for real-time monitoring with data visualizations and live video feed.
- Project fully funded by the ICT Division under the ICT Innovation Fund.
- Currently under the first round of reviews at the IEEE Journal of Internet of Things (IoT-J).
Relevance to Graduate Studies: This project demonstrates my ability to design and implement complex IoT systems, integrate multiple sensors and actuators, and apply machine learning techniques to real-world problems in agriculture and automation.
2 DOF, Single Claw Crawler Bot using Q-learning
Self-funded Lab Project | October 2022 - November 2022
- Designed and built a 2 Degree-of-Freedom (DOF), single-claw crawler robot.
- Implemented Q-learning to determine the best sequence of servo angles for maximum displacement.
- Utilized epsilon-greedy algorithm to ensure faster convergence of Q-learning.
Relevance to Graduate Studies: This project showcases my skills in robotics design, reinforcement learning, and algorithm implementation, which are crucial for advanced research in autonomous robotic systems.
